Is the Gap Between 3D Conversion and Native 3D Shrinking?

Titanic 3D and the Avengers have led the charge of recent, well-received 3D conversions. And, this weekend, Men In Black 3D appears to the be joining them with reportedly “stunning 3D.”

Check out this review in particular on CinemaBlend.com. Men in Black was given a score of 32 out of 35 (a score normally reserved for the highest quality, native productions). Have we reached a point where 3D conversions are comparable to native 3D movies? What are your thoughts? Leave a comment below.

The Next Chapter in Books will be 3D

People often ask us about the types of content they’ll be able to experience on a glasses-free 3D tablet. There are of course 3D movies, games, apps, music videos, etc. But there’s always one 3D content genre that gets a surprised reaction: The 3D book.

3D Children's Book

Now, we’re not talking about rendering The Brothers Karamazov in 3D. Rather, we’re talking about books that rely heavily on illustrations or photography that could truly benefit from a stereo 3D experience. Some examples include…

Children’s books. Imagine the depth 3D could bring to a classic fairy tale. Or a digital version of the classic “pop-up book” with images flying off the screen. There’s a whole new genre of children’s literature waiting to be enabled by 3D.

Comics app for iPadComics and graphic novels. While purists may prefer their copies of X-Men bagged and boarded“, more and more are using apps like Comics to read issues in a convenient digital format. Taking the digital comic one step further to include 3D is no stretch of the imagination. In fact, some of the demos we’ve seen of 3D comics even in rough form are downright amazing. If you’ve already taken to reading comics on a tablet, you won’t believe how fun they are to experience in 3D without glasses.

“Can a Better Screen Finally Produce a 3-D Tablet Worth Buying?”

This week we were up in my old stomping ground of San Francisco.  The City looks great, by the way, completely booming.

Special thanks to our amazing PR team, Concept PR.  It seems that some tech journalists and bloggers are still on the fence about 3D smartphones as the US has yet to see a breakthrough hit.  We showed off our 3D Tablet to communicate this is a fantastic device to start media consumers viewing and interacting with Stereo 3D on a daily basis.  Not only Hollywood movies, but games, animated pop-up books, comics, programming… and, of course, dual lens camera for home 3D videos.  Here is some of the early reactions, and we expect more to come.

The Avengers: #fightflat and See It in 3D?

The early reviews of The Avengers are incredible.  We know that it is a 3D conversion but Joss Whedon promised us the 3D would be great.  What’s the early word on the street?

Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy: “not only does this eye-popping 3D display of visual effects fireworks feature an enormously high proportion of action scenes, but director Joss Whedon has adroitly balanced the celebrity circus to give every single one of the superstar characters his or her due. Worldwide box-office returns will be, in a word, Marvelous.

High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D Takes Center Stage at CinemaCon

We’re live at CinemaCon! This year, the hot topic without question has been High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D. On Monday, exhibitors were given a sneak peek of Peter Jackson’s long-awaited ‘The Hobbit‘ in 48fps HFR 3D. Reviews of the 10-minute clip were mixed. Some admired the tremendous clarity and “hyper-realism” of the image, while others missed the grain and traditional look of film. If you want to see HFR 3D for yourself, MasterImage 3D is screening 48fps, and 60fps 3D footage every 30 minutes at our CinemaCon suite. Come take a look at Tradeshow Suite Milano 2.
