Leading up to CES, we’re turning the spotlight on our partners to get their perspective on what’s happening in digital 3D. Today, we’re pleased to chat with Jason Deadrich, CEO / Founder of Fordela.
What does Fordela do in your words?
Founded in 2006 by online video veterans with decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Fordela has become known for our studio-centric approach and concepts for media management and monetization. Featuring the world’s first cloud-based 3D streaming platform, Fordela allows content owners the ability to safely and securely stream everything from short form videos to feature length screeners to connected devices around the world. The Fordela platform is a complete white-label B2B platform for 2D and 3D video.
Tell us your role in moving forward 3D as a platform?
At Fordela, we are passionate about online video and are constantly pursuing next generation video technologies. We love pushing the envelope and showcasing unique video experiences.
What is the best individual piece of 3D content that you have seen on any platform?
That’s a tough question, there is so much great new 3D content being created. A personal favorite is the HUGO 3D Trailer.
What’s your favorite media/content/technology blog, Twitter feed or mobile app?
I’m addicted to Flipboard. The new iPhone version makes it a killer-app for me. Now if they just had a 3D version…
What are you most excited to see happen in 3D over the next few years?
Full HD and 4K 3D video on desktop and autostereoscopic displays on mobile devices.
What should 3D content creators consider to build a business on streaming services—mobile and PC?
Security, transcoding support, white-label interfaces, analytics, reporting, monetization models and ease of use. I just described Fordela.
What are the characteristics that will make a great 3D mobile streaming service?
The term “Anytime, Anywhere” has to become a reality. Today, if you purchase a 3D mobile device, you have a very limited selection of 3D content to purchase and enjoy.
What is different for Fordela to support a 3D streaming service vs a 2D service? Supporting 3D streaming and management is more complex than 2D in just about every way. The complete Fordela platform has been re-engineered to seamlessly support ingestion of separate left/right video sources or frame-compatible SBS files. The platform then prepares the videos for playback in various 3D formats including NVIDIA 3D Vision, Mobile and Anaglyph. Videos are automatically transcoded and securely streamed from a global content delivery network, direct to the viewers device using advanced bitrate detection algorithms, ensuring the best possible quality with minimal buffering or delays.
